Very smart and highly collectible Japanese scholars box, great piece that is highly sought after and very collectible.
Handmade by the scholars themselves with lovely parquetry decoration to store writing nibs and other small implements.
Dating to around 1900 firmly putting it in the Meiji period of Japanese history and this one is slightly oversized to the ones you normally find.
Condition is fantastic given its age, all original with fantastic wear and patina and one of the little drawer knobs has been replaced with a screw (see pics) but I’m sure someone could easily rectify this.
All in a fantastic piece that would sit well on a desk or make a smart gift idea. Please don’t hesitate to buy as this item will sell quickly
